Internships offer a powerful opportunity to help a person better understand what they may want to do with the rest of their lives, and not do.

There are many academic institutions and university that produce thousands of fresh graduates every year in Somalia, more than ten thousand (10,000) of fresh graduates were produced last year, only ten percent (10%) of those may get a job while the remaining are ending up with jobless, redundancy and depression. According to International Labor Organization (ILO) the rate of unemployment in Somalia was 11.35% in 2019.

Several studies have shown strong correlation between unemployment and violence among youth in different countries Kurtz et al. (2018) finds that youth who received vocational training during an employability program (INVEST)13 and a cash transfer of 75 USD in Kandahar, Afghanistan, were 17 percent less likely to support armed opposition groups six to nine months after the end of the interventions. Various disciplines have worked to better understand the root causes of conflict, highlighting unemployment and decent work deficits as possible factors leading to it and decent work creation as a possible way to create safer societies in the aftermath of war (Collier, 2004; World Bank, 2011; ILO, 2016).

Voluntary Action Committee in Somalia (VACSOM) has organized a special project “internship offer for the newly graduated students” that supports the local fresh graduates who are in need for internship to be able to handle real life careers. The project aims to offer internship opportunity for more than one thousand (1000) fresh graduates from different faculties including both males and females in the next two years (2021 and 2022).

VACSOM has assigned a certain team to arrange the internship activities starting from recruitment, induction training and orientation up to the field work. Each volunteer will attain at the end of his/her volunteering program a certificate of appreciation that will boost the career status for each volunteer and getting employed will be easier.
