Health and nutrition
Despite efforts by Somali authorities to improve maternal and child health, and the population’s nutrition situation, child and maternal mortality in Somalia is still at one of the world’s highest levels. There are various reasons for this. The health system is underfinanced and of poor quality, there are insufficient and under qualified staff, and access roads and health centres are in short supply. Over a quarter of children under five years of age suffer from chronic malnutrition.
Since 2011 VACSOM has been working in improving health and nutrition status in Somalia, we are committed to provide health services to vulnerable people of disadvantaged communities since the time of our establishment. The organization focuses ensuring equitable access of deprived rural and urban population to quality health and nutrition services. The health and nutrition actions aim at enhancing well-being of particularly vulnerable groups, especially women, children and aged from the right based perspective.
